Programs and Services: Community Supports Program
The Community Supports Program (CSP) provides an array of individualized services and supports to children and adults with mental retardation. This program is provided in home and community settings to assist individuals in acquiring, maintaining, and improving self-help, domestic, socialization, and adaptive skills.
Scope
Through the CSP Program individuals learn, maintain, or improve skills through their participation in a variety of everyday activities. They learn and use skills in the context of these activities which are necessary for living in the community, to live more independently, or to be more productive and participatory in community life. Services are provided in a manner that ensures the person’s health and welfare.
Component-Based Service
CSP is a multi-dimensional, component-based service. One component of the program is providing support and assistance to individuals who are financially responsible for renting or owning their own home. The focus is assistance with independent living skills such as budgeting, shopping, and medical appointments.
Another component is providing services and supports for individuals who reside in their natural homes. The focus includes activities of daily living, community integration and socialization, as well as providing support and relief to the primary care giver.
A further component is providing services and supports to individuals residing in personal care homes and nursing homes. The focus is to provide socialization and extra support to the individuals in accessing their communities.
